Description of problem:
Software updater sometimes crashes

How reproducible:


Steps to Reproduce:
1. startx
2. Run 'Software Updater' menu entry
3. Oaccasionally the updater will crash and request details to be saved and the
bug reported. So, here's the bug report.
  
Actual results:
Updater works

Expected results:
Updater crashes
