Created attachment 298041 [details] Merged scsconfig.log and scsrun.log
The log contains message "Too many connections". The audio codec failed to initalize. From subsystem PCI ID, it's a system with a Realtek HDA codec.
Today I compiled and installed alsa drivers version 1.0.16, and now the sound works! So, the solution is an upgrade to the latest alsa verision, or a corresponding backport. I enclose the new scsconfig.log file. Thanks, Bjorn

Please, attach output or URL from alsa-info.sh script to get codec information (when working ALSA 1.0.16 is active). http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Help_To_Debug Thanks
Unfortunately, the machine in question has been reinstalled with CentOS 5.1. However, the sound card problem is the same. I therefore ran the alsa-info.sh script which was uploaded to http://pastebin.ca/979666 I hope this helps. Thanks, Bjorn S. Nilsson
Because we lost test machine, I mark this bug as insufficient data.
