I'm having the same problem. I fixed the problem in Openoffice by checking Tools->Options->General "Use OpenOffice.org dialogs." This bug happens in Openoffice.org, GIMP and gedit. Clifford
I hope that this is fixed in the glib-2.16.3-7.fc9 update thats in updates-testing right now.
I updated to glib-2.16.3-7 with no change in the problem. When I did a rpm -qa and grep'd for glib there were two versions, one an x86_64, for my system, as well as an i386 that I installed to run firefox with Adobe/Macromedia's Flash and a couple other applications that don't have an x86_64 version. Could this have anything to do with the problem?
unlikely that the two versions have anything to do with the problem. Thanks for testing !
The following work around resolved the problem. The user data was backed up then the user was removed and then added back. Just the data, none of the hidden files were restored. In my case it appears that the problem is with a hidden user file. It isn't in .gconf* .gnome* .openoffice.org2.0, or .gimp, or in data in the /tmp directory. I'm not sure where gtk stores data. However, whatever file it is should be available in my backup if it will help you out.

Gah, mid-air collision when I tried to add a reply to Caolan on #459662. He asked where the files in question were, ie just on the local disc or somewhere else? Although the laptop in that report can presumably do wireless and/or ethernet, it is on no network, so no connections to other machines. But I am pretty sure the files were on a USB key. I will check tomorrow. Anything else I should find out?
Whoops, no, the files in #459662 were on the local disc, so I can't think what else might have been mounted. Sorry.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 9 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 9. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '9'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 9's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 9 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 9 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2009-07-10. Fedora 9 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
