Description of problem: I rarely run a kernel that has sound since Fedora 7, the last kernel I know that worked off hand in F8 was the original installed kernel. Now with F9 I still have no sound. In the past I was able to build alsa-driver from the mercurial tree, not git and it would work. Along with passing "options snd-hda-intel model=3stack". This current method doesn't work on F9 or the latest F8 kernel. I've both installed on my laptop. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 2.6.25.3-18.fc9.x86_64 alsa-utils-1.0.16-2.fc9.x86_64 alsa-lib-1.0.16-3.fc9.x86_64 alsa-plugins-pulseaudio-1.0.16-4.fc9.x86_64 How reproducible: Play anything with sound.. Actual results: No sound. Expected results: Sound. Additional info: # lspci -v|grep -i audio 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 02) Here is the output from alsa-info.sh http://pastebin.ca/1031750
If I install the following packages form atrpms I have sound. alsa-kmdl-2.6.25.3-18.fc9.x86_64-1.0.17-66_hg20080315.fc9.x86_64 alsa-driver-1.0.17-66_hg20080315.fc9.x86_64
it's probably worth pulling the latest alsa drivers into the next f9 update.
Let me know when you have one updated and I'll test it.
kernel-2.6.25.4-30.fc9.x86_64 still no worky.. :) Helps from atrpms alsa-kmdl-2.6.25.4-30.fc9.x86_64-1.0.17-66_hg20080315.fc9.x86_64
Installing kernel 2.6.25.10-47.fc8 with alsa-kmdl-2.6.25.10-47.fc8-1.0.17-68.fc8.i686.rpm from atrpms.net brought back sound on my Toshiba Satellite 3000-214. This machine has 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 01) 00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corporation 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 01) I think it's something to do with mixer changes in ALSA 1.0.16 that got included in 2.6.25. 2.6.24.4-64 worked fine, but .25.6-27, .25.9-40 and .25.10-47 were all problematic out of the box.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 9 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 9. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '9'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 9's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 9 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 9 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2009-07-10. Fedora 9 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
