Description Jeff Layton 2008-07-23 14:17:49 UTC
Spun off last lockdep warning to bug 456320 and I think I have a fix for it.
This morning, I got a new one (unrelated to keys API):

=======================================================
[ INFO: possible circular locking dependency detected ]
2.6.18-98.el5.jtltest.38.bz456320.1debug #1

test5/2483 is trying to acquire lock:
 (sk_lock-AF_INET){--..}, at: [<ffffffff800270d2>] tcp_sendmsg+0x1c/0xb2f

but task is already holding lock:
 (&inode->i_alloc_sem){--..}, at: [<ffffffff8002e454>] notify_change+0xf5/0x2e0

which lock already depends on the new lock.

I think the last lockdep warning means that we need to do something like this
patch, but for CIFS:

http://programming.kicks-ass.net/kernel-patches/lockdep/nfs-socket-lockdep.patch

I've also seen some postings from LKML where people have hit the same warning
with CIFS, so this looks like another upstream problem.

Created attachment 312481 [details]
patch -- annotate CIFS sockets

Patch for upstream CIFS. Annotate CIFS sockets to prevent these lockdep
warnings.

Comment 2 Jeff Layton 2008-07-23 18:08:20 UTC
Patch pushed upstream. I'll close this as a dupe of the 5.3 cifs update bug.
