Description Richard Jolly 2008-07-30 18:03:26 UTC
Description of problem:

Fedora 8 random crashes of X server - laptop completely locks ups no discernible
pattern to lockup - sometimes 5 mins - sometimes over 2 hours. The laptop is not
recoverable in terms of using ctrl-alt-backspace to reboot X. I have attached a
snapshot of what appears to be entries from /var/log/messages files under fglrx.
These are attached below.

I have compiz installed to run but NOT to run from boot more often the system
locks up BEFORE using compiz.

Comment 2 Richard Jolly 2008-07-30 18:19:47 UTC
to follow on from the attachment - showing kernel messages just prior to the
messages in the attachment I also found the following:

"Jul 30 18:19:36 fedlap1 kernel: [fglrx:firegl_release] *ERROR* device busy: 1 0
Jul 30 18:19:36 fedlap1 kernel: [fglrx] release failed with code -EBUSY"

Thanks for the report. We are sorry that we cannot help you with your problem,
but we are not able to support binary-only drivers. If you would be able to
reproduce this issue using only open source software, please, reopen this bug
with the additional information, but in meantime I have no choice than to close
this bug as CANTFIX (because we really cannot fix it).
