Patch to double the built-in font size.

Description of problem:
Current alevt has built-in fonts which are quite small, even with 1024x768 resolution.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
alevt-1.6.2-5.fc9.x86_64

How reproducible:
Always, of course.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Actual results:

Expected results:

Additional info:
I'll attach a couple of (alternative) patches.
Each of these will provide double or bigger font size.
I currently use the first one (double font size). This will also need, in the spec file, something like:

BuildRequires:	/usr/bin/convert

Clearly, with double font size, there could be problems with lower resolutions, like 800x600 or 640x480.

Any news on this side?
I got a new, larger, monitor, and "alevt" is smaller than before... :-(

Thanks,

pg

Piergiorgio would you add a screen shot ?
I have a 19'' CRT and 1280x1024 and it seems almost decent.

At this moment I'm not sure how to fix this issue, I'm not really comfortable of providing a separate package (with double-fonts).
Modifying the code to support multiple fonts seems nearly impossible.

Screenshot of alevt on desktop

This is a screenshot of alevt alone in the middle of the desktop.
The monitor is 1680x1050, so 16x10, with 22" diagonal.

It is not unreadable, but at least 50% bigger will be, for me at least, better.

I guess one problem with fonts is the teletext has its own set, so I can understand it is not so easy to have dynamic scaling.

On the other hand, on a 1920x1200 24" monitor, things will be really unreadable.

One possible solution would be to have the two font maps (normal and double) in the package and some user settings, like $HOME/.alevtrc, where it is specified which one to take. Or with a command line option.
Actually alevt has a "-geometry" option, but it does only smaller windows...

Thanks again,

pg

Added support for double font.
Alevt now takes -doublefont (or -df) for doubling font size.

Comment 9 Piergiorgio Sartor 2008-12-05 18:59:40 UTC
I just tried out the new version, from Koji, and it works perfectly!
Thank you so much, well done!
This is really a very good solution!

I guess we can let the issue close.

Thanks again,

pg

Uhm, what does it mean?

It sounds like some inside joke, but I can imagine it is some "slang" I do not get...

Thanks,

pg

Sorry that was a typo what I meant was:
When trying packages that were submitted through bodhi please add karma to those packages. Bodhi uses a 'karma' system to promote packages to stable (nottice Add comment field).
