Red Hat Bugzilla – Bug 461231
cmdline kickstart option not honored
Last modified: 2008-09-05 07:05:35 EDT
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #461230 +++
Description of problem:
Anaconda falls back to curses based text mode even though cmdline kickstrat option is given
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Steps to reproduce:
1. Start a virtual guest with less than 288MB RAM (200MB, PV Xen guest) *
2. Provide a complete kickstart file which contains 'cmdline' command
3. Proceed with install
4. X can't start (not enough memory, X not on minstg2.img) - anaconda falls
back to curses based text mode instead of going to cmdline mode.
* - in the code GUI_STAGE2_RAM 294912 = 288MB
Anaconda runs in text mode instead of cmdline mode
Anaconda will run in cmdline mode
When the machine has enough memory to run the GUI (i.e. 512MB) it successfully starts the cmdline mode.
See comments 4, 5, 6 at bug #456110 for patches
Happens in Fedora too. Tested with Fedora 9 (most likely Rawhide too).
MIN_GUI_RAM = 192000, I had 150MB for my Xen guest.
Seems that this patch fixes it:
