Description Tom London 2008-09-09 17:47:31 UTC
Description of problem:
updating to mesa-7.2-0.1 (and friends) slows down my Thinkpad X60 (Intel 945 graphics) to slower than a crawl.

glxgears runs at from 1-5 FPS, and the nifty "cube rotation" takes about 5-10 seconds to complete.

Reverting to

Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue.

Please attach your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link below.

Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf whatsoever and let X11 autodetect your display and video card? Attach to this bug /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt as well, please.

We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information.

Thanks in advance.

/var/log/Xorg.0.log running with "slow version" of mesa packages

I updated mesa packages to latest rawhide:
[tbl@tlondon ~]$ rpm -qa mesa\*
mesa-dri-drivers-7.2-0.1.fc10.i386
mesa-libGL-7.2-0.1.fc10.i386
mesa-libGL-devel-7.2-0.1.fc10.i386
mesa-libGLU-7.2-0.1.fc10.i386
mesa-libGLU-devel-7.2-0.1.fc10.i386
[tbl@tlondon ~]$

and logged out/logged in to gnome.

Attached is /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

I run without /etc/X11/xorg.conf, so nothing to attach.

Here is output of 'glxgears' running without compiz:

[tbl@tlondon ~]$ glxgears
24 frames in 5.2 seconds = 4.577 FPS
12 frames in 5.7 seconds = 2.121 FPS
19 frames in 7.0 seconds = 2.716 FPS
[tbl@tlondon ~]$

For completeness, I am running on Thinkpad X60, with Intel 945 graphics.

Here is output of lspci:

[tbl@tlondon ~]$ /sbin/lspci

but I can update for any and all tests you may need.

For comparison, here is the result of running glxgears with mesa*-7.1-0.37:

[tbl@tlondon ~]$ glxgears
141 frames in 5.0 seconds = 28.052 FPS
133 frames in 5.0 seconds = 26.595 FPS
139 frames in 5.0 seconds = 27.761 FPS
149 frames in 5.0 seconds = 29.729 FPS
158 frames in 5.0 seconds = 31.399 FPS
144 frames in 5.0 seconds = 28.628 FPS
143 frames in 5.0 seconds = 28.486 FPS
120 frames in 5.0 seconds = 23.991 FPS
134 frames in 5.0 seconds = 26.794 FPS
147 frames in 5.0 seconds = 29.341 FPS
[tbl@tlondon ~]$

Comment 5 Tom London 2008-09-19 14:00:55 UTC
Not sure what changed, but system (including compiz) is performing well again:

[tbl@tlondon ~]$ runcon -t unconfined_execmem_t glxgears
1556 frames in 5.0 seconds = 311.051 FPS
1654 frames in 5.0 seconds = 330.769 FPS
1637 frames in 5.0 seconds = 327.241 FPS
1663 frames in 5.0 seconds = 332.591 FPS
[tbl@tlondon ~]$

Compiz appears fast as well: cube rotates and window moves seem as fast/snappy as before.
