Description scmuser 2008-09-22 10:12:22 UTC
Description of problem:

I'm on F9 and everytime I do a new install (we have a few F9 installs), I have to set LCD subpixel smoothing (LCD's).

I'm not sure why this is not the default. Hopefully this will be the default in F10?

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
F9

How reproducible:
In GNOME, System -> Preference -> Look and Feel -> Appearance -> Fonts

Steps to Reproduce:

Actual results:

Expected results:
With subpixel smoothing, text is readable and crisp!

There are a few reasons:

1) Not every one uses a flat panel monitor
2) Different LCDs have different subpixel ordering, so there's no one right default
3) It's not obviously better to everyone. The preference is rather subjective.
4) we're just going with the upstream default on this, so we'd need to lobby upstream to change the default first anyway.
