Let me know if you need to know more.

How reproducible:

Everytime. I've never gotten a CD to work properly in the optical drive.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Boot the laptop.
2. Log into a KDE session.
3. Open the optical drive tray. Insert an audio CD. Close the tray.

Actual results:

Sometimes the "New Device" window appears on the KDE desktop. Sometimes it doesn't. No new messages appear in /var/log/messages

If one starts KsCD, the artist and songlist appear in the fields. If one presses play, the counter goes to 00:00 and then it freezes. It can't be unlocked. grip and the kaudiocreator apps do similar things.

Expected results:

KsCD should be able to play the CD. grip should be able to read it to rip it.

Additional info:

The drive works fine for writing CDs and DVDs via K3B. The laptop will also boot from CDs and DVDs in the optical drive.

Comment 1 Bug Zapper 2008-11-26 11:14:00 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 8 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 8. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '8'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 8's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 8 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 2 Linuxguy123 2008-11-27 15:02:54 UTC
I've upgraded to F10. The problem still exists. I'm bumping the version to F10.

uname -a
Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686 #1 SMP Tue Nov 18 12:19:59 EST 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Kscd says version 1.5, under KDE 4.1.3

$ rpm -q kdelibs
kdelibs-4.1.3-3.fc10.i386

Comment 3 Steven M. Parrish 2009-02-04 13:10:40 UTC
Thank you for the bug report. This issue needs to be addressed by the upstream developers. Please submit a report at http://bugs.kde.org. You are requested to add the bugzilla link here for tracking purposes. Please make sure the bug isn't already in the upstream bug tracker before filing it.

Comment 4 Steven M. Parrish 2009-03-17 00:52:59 UTC
Reporter, could you please reply to the previous request? If you don't reply in within one month of the original request , we will have to close this bug as INSUFFICIENT_DATA. Thank you.

Comment 5 Steven M. Parrish 2009-04-27 18:00:24 UTC
The information we've requested above is required in order to review this problem report further and diagnose or fix the issue if it is still present. Since it has been thirty days or more since we first requested additional information, we're assuming the problem is either no longer present in the current Fedora release, or that there is no longer any interest in tracking the problem.

Setting status to "CLOSED: INSUFFICIENT_DATA". If you still experience this problem after updating to our latest Fedora release and can provide the information previously requested, please feel free to reopen the bug report.

Thank you in advance.
