Description Michal Jaegermann 2008-10-10 22:16:02 UTC
Description of problem:

irq 16: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option)
Pid: 0, comm: swapper Not tainted 2.6.27-0.408.rc9.git1.fc10.x86_64 #1

Disabling IRQ #16

In /proc/interrupts

 16: 100001 IO-APIC-fasteoi firewire_ohci

and there are no firewire devices hooked up to a machine
so this "disabling" does not seem to have any real consequences
in the given setup.

That is something relatively new and, AFAICT, was
never showing up with kernels below 2.6.27-0.354.rc7.git3.fc10.x86_64.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-2.6.27-0.408.rc9.git1.fc10

How reproducible:
happens in unpredictable intervals

Comment 1 petrosyan 2008-10-16 18:40:41 UTC
Can you attach '/var/log/dmesg' file?

dmesg output from 2.6.27-0.408.rc9.git1.fc10.x86_64

Sorry, without "nobody cared" but this happens unpredictably.
Append to that what is in the report and you will see what I have
seen.

Another example with 2.6.27-0.398.rc9.fc10.x86_64 is in
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=319954
but there it is in a company of other oopses. What I reported for
2.6.27-0.408.rc9.git1.fc10.x86_64 happened "on its own".

Comment 3 Michal Jaegermann 2008-10-22 21:34:28 UTC
I did not see that for a while so maybe this was specific to some series of kernels and is gone? OTOH I have no clue how to try to repeat that and it
was happening apparently in a random manner. Still plese note http://lkml.org/lkml/2008/10/19/42 and followups in that thread. It appears that the guy can reproduce something similar in apparently much more reliable manner.

Comment 4 Bug Zapper 2008-11-26 03:45:57 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 10 development cycle.
Changing version to '10'.

I have similar problem:
http://x86.sk/~social/_code/irqtrouble
it always is

 <IRQ> [<ffffffff81083207>] __report_bad_irq+0x38/0x7c
 [<ffffffff81083453>] note_interrupt+0x208/0x26d

 [<ffffffff8101309e>] do_IRQ+0xf7/0x169
 [<ffffffff81010933>] ret_from_intr+0x0/0x2e

kernel 2.6.27.7-130.fc10.x86_64

Fastest way to reproduce is to use 3d program and wifi at same time, should hang in while. But it happend even I use only wifi or only 3d program.

But also when I use debug kernel kernel-debug-2.6.27.7-130.fc10.x86_64 with kdump I get http://x86.sk/~social/_code/kdump/IMGP8470.JPG when pressing sysrq+c. Shouldn't it boot another kernel and dumpt the old one instead?

Lucas,

It looks like you might be seeing the Bug #471162. The Redhat report has been closed, but there's still activity at the freedesktop bug (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18609). It seems to be fixed for most people (myself included), but there are a few people who are still having issues.

- Ben

Comment 9 Mace Moneta 2008-12-02 19:05:31 UTC
According to the freedesktop bug, the problem wasn't fixed, the probability was reduced. No root cause has been identified yet. Closing Bug #471162 was probably premature.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. I think it's been fixed on some hardware, but not others. I have yet to see the issue come up once on my machine ever since anholt's patch was applied. However, I know of at least three people who are still experiencing the issue. What hardware are you on?

Comment 11 Mace Moneta 2008-12-02 19:38:23 UTC
With a long (random) interval between events and a low probability, I don't think you can suggest that the issue is fixed on some hardware. It's been two weeks since my last event. It's not hard to believe it could be a month or more. The fix hasn't been out that long.

Comment 12 Bug Zapper 2009-11-18 08:33:26 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 10 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 10. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '10'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 10's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 10 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 13 Mace Moneta 2009-11-30 06:19:16 UTC
I've upgraded to F12 and no longer see this issue.

Comment 14 Bug Zapper 2009-12-18 06:33:01 UTC
Fedora 10 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2009-12-17. Fedora 10 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
