Description Steven Rostedt 2008-10-20 16:59:54 EDT
The cause of the bug that corrupted the e1000e chips in 2.6.27-rc was traced down to the dynamic ftrace tracer. Since MRG has the dynamic ftrace tracer, I looked into it. After reviewing the code, I believe this bug exists in the MRG tracer kernel.

I have a fix for 2.6.28 that I will back port to the MRG kernel.

back port dynamic ftrace fixes to handle e1000e bug

This patch adds protection against the occurrence of the e1000e corruption bug.

It backports several aspects of the mainline kernel. See patch description for details.

back port of recordmcount.pl

This backport of recordmcount.pl limits the processing of mcount to only the .text section. This helps prevent processing of code that might be freed at a later time.
