Description of problem:
I would like a preference in gnome-terminal turning off special handling of URLs as text, so it won't attempt to make them clicky (current behaviour inhibits quick double-clicking of them to copy/paste).

It's actually not that bad.  It doesn't do anything unless you ctrl+click.  It's just the the mouse cursor that is confusing.  That's filed upstream:
