Description of problem: If ESC attempts to perform an operation such as a Format against a TPS host that happens to be down, ESC can crash. If the user's profile is configured to point to a host that does not exist, the problem can happen as well. This is a timing issue. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): esc-1.0.0-37.el5 How reproducible: Always on my local machine. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start ESC. 2. Enter a token. 3. Bring the TPS down or manually edit the user's profile to point to a TPS host that does not exist. (Profile found in ~/.redhat/esc/*default/prefs.js) 4. Attempt to perform a Format operation on the token. Actual results: ESC can crash under these conditions. Expected results: ESC should simply complain about a lost connection and continue. Additional info: I have already figured out the problem and have a patch in hand.
Devel is easily able to reproduce and thus verify this bug; I am unable to reproduce, but as it is both an easy fix and a nasty thing to have ESC crash, think this should get into 5.3.
Will respin as soon as possible. Thanks..
Resolved in esc-1.0.0.0-38.
1. I manually loaded a version of ESC before the crash fix (37). 2. I brought down the TPS being pointed to by my token. 3. Tried a Format and the Bug Buddy crash reporter thing showed up. 4. I then manually reloaded the latest ESC (39) on the system. 5. Tried the Format again and it gave me the usual, "lost connection" message. 6. I repeated the test 3 or 4 times without incident.
I attempted to duplicate on the X86_64 platform and could not. No problems encountered when trying the fix though. Bug is VERIFIED for i386.
Thank you Jack. :) Moving bug to VERIFIED.
