Red Hat Bugzilla – Bug 472953
Java plugin fails when visiting an https site whose certificate is not in the trust path
Last modified: 2009-02-04 21:23:53 EST
If a user visits a site whose certificate is not in cacerts, IcedTea Plugin encounters a fatal exception and exits.
The expected behaviour is that the user is prompted about the problem, and given a choice to add the certificate to cacerts.
Just an update for those monitoring this issue.. it is now fixed upstream. The fix will be in the next Fedora release of OpenJDK.

this should be in rawhide within the next couple of days:
java-1.6.0-openjdk-184.108.40.206-9.b14.fc10 has been pushed to the Fedora 10 stable repository. If problems still persist, please make note of it in this bug report.
