Hi, The plymouth splash works pretty well, but it would be even greater if we had as splash when shutting down the computer too. Kind regards,
I totally agree. It's a long standing TODO item. Unfortunately, I found out this week that I'm not going to have much time to work on Plymouth in the F11 cycle (and some other feature work to do), so this will have to wait for a while (unless Charlie decides to do it).
Agreed also, although I instlled fedora for the first time yesterday... May I also add that the shutdown messages are displayed with a terminal font that does not handle correctly accented letter, thus adding to the confusion.
Created attachment 332766 [details] /etc/event.d/plymouth-shutdown Here's a quick and dirty way to do this. To do it right I guess we'll need: 1. a custom splash for (restarting, powering down) 2. do a nice fade when modesetting?
If this is ever done (hopefully!) don't forget restart :) Having this fade in after pressing shutdown/restart in GNOME would be impressive.

Does this require a particular version of plymouth for the --shutdown mode?
Yes, any snapshot after 2009-02-26. Rawhide has it.
OK, added in git. Will build once the mdadm stuff settles down. http://git.fedorahosted.org/git/?p=initscripts.git;a=commitdiff;h=a79cd004b1212125f1bb8f2b6d72065aa7505c4e
Is there any documentation on how to specify an image for shutdown? Is it possible to specify this as part of a plymouth plugin package that is set at the same time as the startup plugin? I'm playing with a plugin to replace the olpc bootanim package with a plymouth package.
