I filed the same bug upstream, and they say it's fixed in newer gnome-scan/gegl. http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=544435
I've already built a newer gegl (gegl-0.0.22) in F-10 updates-testing for this purpose. I'm waiting for 2 day more (just to make sure it's not causing regressions for people) before pulling it into updates repo and using it to build the newer gnome-scan.
gnome-scan-0.6.1-1.fc10 has been pushed to the Fedora 10 testing repository. If problems still persist, please make note of it in this bug report. If you want to test the update, you can install it with su -c 'yum --enablerepo=updates-testing update gnome-scan'. You can provide feedback for this update here: http://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/F10/FEDORA-2009-1023
Just a note to say the fix worked for me.
