I just installed an x86_64 machine using 20090120 rawhide networking config from kickstart was: network --device eth0 --bootproto dhcp --hostname foo and the installed machine has no /etc/sysconfig/network and NetworkManager isn't running adding "NETWORKING=yes" to /etc/sysconfig/networking and starting NetworkManager is enough to sort it out
I'm able to reproduce this as well.
I think I see where I broke this while trying to fix network bring up during installs. Working on a patch.
Mark, can you try the updates.img from http://geek.j2solutions.net/stuff/updates.img and see if it works for you?

Upstream took patch, building.
And tagged for alpha.
