Description David Anderson 2009-02-04 04:59:31 UTC
I'm using a smartphone as a GPRS modem.

When the device is plugged in, it shows in the nm-applet UI. BUT, it doesn't work if you select it until several seconds later. If you try to connect through it before that, nothing happens and you have to try again. So, it's giving you the option before NM is actually ready, and if you use it it silently fails.

Watching syslog, what happens is this:

1) Device is plugged in:

hodge NetworkManager: <info> ttyUSB0: driver is 'ipaq'.
hodge NetworkManager: <info> Found new Modem device 'ttyUSB0'.
hodge NetworkManager: <info>  (ttyUSB0): exported as /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_bb4_cf_noserial_if0_serial_usb_0

2) Click "Connect" from nm-applet UI:

hodge NetworkManager: <WARN> impl_manager_activate_connection(): Connection (2) /org/freedesktop/NetworkManagerSettings/0 failed to activate: (2) Device not managed by NetworkManager

3) Wait a few seconds until this appears:

hodge NetworkManager: <info>  (ttyUSB0): device state change: 1 -> 2
hodge NetworkManager: <info> (ttyUSB0): deactivating device (reason: 2).
hodge NetworkManager: nm_system_device_flush_ip4_routes_with_iface: assertion `iface_idx >= 0' failed
hodge NetworkManager: nm_system_device_flush_ip4_addresses_with_iface: assertion `iface_idx >= 0' failed
hodge NetworkManager: <info>  (ttyUSB0): device state change: 2 -> 3

4) Click "Connect" again, this time it works.

$ rpm -q NetworkManager NetworkManager-gnome
NetworkManager-0.7.0-0.12.svn4326.fc9.x86_64
NetworkManager-gnome-0.7.0-0.12.svn4326.fc9.x86_64

Comment 5 David Anderson 2009-03-02 06:25:23 UTC
Works for me with 0.7.0-2.git20090207.fc9.x86_64 from F9 testing. I'm on Fedora 9 so can't test those F10 ones.
