dmesg

Description of problem:

With F10 KMS kind of worked for my ATI Radeon - unless disabled with nomodeset

With F11 KMS is always disabled.

I can see from the kernel changelog that it was disabled some months ago, but AFAICS it should be enabled again.

So either it is just me (or my hardware) that has a problem, or it is a general known issue for which I haven't been able to find a tracking issue.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

kernel-PAE-2.6.29-0.124.rc5.fc11.i686
Kernel command line: ro root=UUID=005cd094-d9e0-43c7-ae27-d77ffaae7a41 rhgb quiet

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV516 [Radeon X1300/X1550 Series]

KMS now works with kernel-PAE-2.6.29-0.137.rc5.git4.fc11.i686 - perhaps bco

- radeon: add module device table

BUT now it hangs when trying to start X, leaving a frozen plymouth animation on screen.
xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.10.0-3.fc11.i586

Xorg.0.log ends with:
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 11, (OK)
drmOpenByBusid: Searching for BusID pci:0000:01:00.0
drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
drmOpenDevice: open result is 11, (OK)
drmOpenByBusid: drmOpenMinor returns 11
drmOpenByBusid: drmGetBusid reports pci:0000:01:00.0
(EE) AIGLX error: Calling driver entry point failed(EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering
(II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized /usr/lib/dri/swrast_dri.so
(II) GLX: Initialized DRISWRAST GL provider for screen 0
(II) RADEON(0): Setting screen physical size to 338 x 270
resize called 1280 1024

When booting to runlevel 3 (fine hi-res KMS console) and running startx the screen flickers while retrying to start X.

Now I can't boot to X at all on my pretty ordinary Dell, so I raise priority/severity to be more release-blocker-ish.
