I have a Dell Vostro 1710 laptop. My smolt profile is here: http://smolt.fedoraproject.org/show?uuid=pub_d913066d-0e1f-4881-b543-36cfa43e3b1d Every so often (at unpredictable times), X stops responding to mouse clicks or the keyboard. I can move the mouse with both my Bluetooth mouse and my touchpad, but clicking has no effect. On the keyboard, not even numlock has any effect. It's not a hardware problem, though--once X has shut down, terminals respond to my keyboard just fine. Package Versions: xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.5.3-13.fc10.x86_64 xorg-x11-drv-evdev-2.1.3-1.fc10.x86_64
I have the same problem, I can only press the power button, then the dialog asking to reboot/shudown/suspend appears but I can't click on it or use the keyboard. Of course going back to console doesn't work either. The only thing that works is to remote connect (via ssh) and kill on of the gui program (sometimes it can be thunderbird, nautilus, inkscape...). But then it happens again in short time. In the message log the only thing a can see is : kernel: CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to 15000 nsec my xorg version is : xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.5.3-13.fc10.x86_64 and the kernel 2.6.27.19-170.2.35.fc10.x86_64 I've now tried to disable hpet at boot, let's see what happens.
Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue. Please attach your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf, if available) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf (if you have one) whatsoever and let X11 autodetect your display and video card? Attach to this bug /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt as well, please. We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information. Thanks in advance.
Hi I am experiencing the exact same issue. in my case it starts in intellij IDEA which is a Java IDE. Initially everything works fine, but after some working as I type the keyboard buffer gets messed up. it runs a few keys behind what I type. and to synch it up I have to keep pressing "esc" (or any other non-char key) to see what I have been typing! This situation gets worse and ends up with freezing the keyboard completely as somebody mentioned above. The system seems to work fine though but keyboard stops responding and the only thing that works is the power button which shows the "restart" prompt. workaround:when I see the initial signs of the issue on my Intellij IDEA, I just close the app and restart it. this gives me a few more minutes to work with no problem. I had the exact same issue with Opera too. but today's update of libgxim-0.3.2-4.fc10.i386 along with updating Opera itself solved my Opera issue (at least till now). but its still early to say for sure since this issue comes after working (typing) a bit in the app. I have attached my xorg.conf and some other logs. Thanks

This bug is affecting more applications and generating more complains. see below thread: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=215535 Thanks.

It happens to all X for me, almost instantly without any warning or prior degradation (except that the mouse wheel behaves funny for about 1 second) and there is no workaround.
Today the Xorg on my laptop locked several times, since I've added hpet=disable as argument the the kernel, I didn't happen anymore... dunno yet if it's related. I'll keep you posted of any new change
Could you please try to upgrade to the latest release of libgxim (http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=6690) for your distro (F10 currently http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=92421 and F11 http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=92422)? Does it help?
Matej In my case, yes as I said I have updated the libgxim to the latest: libgxim-0.3.2-4.fc10.i386 but still having issues in my intellij IDEA.
I have the same version of libgxim, which I installed on March 4 (two days after I filed this bug). It's hard to say if it's still happening, because it will sometimes happen after three hours, and sometimes happen after 20 minutes, and I haven't been on this laptop that much lately. However, I will let you know if it happens again. (I think it may have even since I upgraded libgxim, but I wasn't paying attention to that particular upgrade enough to be sure.)
if you run xev when this happens, do you see any events there? also, this really doesn't sound like an evdev issue. does it happen if XIM is turned off?

Does it help? I have installed libgxim-0.3.2-4.fc10.x86_64 and the problem with intellij IDEA is exactly the same.
since I've put hpet=disable at boot (for one week now) it never happened again !
I'm experiencing exactly the same bug. I also have a Dell Vostro 1310 laptop. Since I installed Fedora last week I started experiencing alternatively keyboard or mouse (or both together) freezes. Mouse still moves, but clicks don't work. This happens both using external USB mouse or internal touchpad. Sometimes after a while the system restart working, but most times the only solution is a reboot. After I found this discussion I took a look at my dmesg, and found the following three lines at the end: CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to 15000 nsec CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to 22500 nsec CE: hpet increasing min_delta_ns to 33750 nsec So I decided to try disabling hpet as suggested, up to now it seems to work. I'll post if it will happen again.
Ok, after three weeks, I can say that the "hpet=disable" workaround works also for me.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 10 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 10. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '10'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 10's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 10 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
I haven't seen this issue happen in a long time. I'm running Fedora 11 on the laptop now, and I believe the package update fixed this in Fedora 10 as well.
Thank you for letting us know.
