Red Hat Bugzilla – Bug 491098
Display gets dimmed although it shouldn't
Last modified: 2009-08-20 07:38:24 EDT
Description of problem:
Display gets dimmed on idle although I have turned this behavior off.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start computer on AC
2. Make sure idle_dim_battery is turned off:
$ gconftool-2 -g /apps/gnome-power-manager/backlight/idle_dim_battery
3. Wait a little
Backlight is dimmed on idle.
Backlight should not be dimmed
Also happens when calling gnome-power-preferences, sometimes even when I'm typing.
Using an Asus F3P.

So you're on AC, not battery...
You want to turn off /apps/gnome-power-manager/backlight/idle_dim_ac

Sorry, my bad, I was on battery not AC.
If it's happening when you're typing, then it shouldn't be the idle code. Do you have an ambient light sensor in your laptop?
The dimming while typing is not reproducible reliably, not sure if it's related my other brightness problems from bug #485845.
No, the Asus F3P has no light sensor.
This should be all now fixed on F11.
