When I boot with nouveau.modeset=1, then it works fine (so far at least). this is with: xorg-x11-drv-nouveau-0.0.12-16.20090326git01cee29.fc11.i586 kernel-2.6.29-0.258.rc8.git2.fc11.i586

Are you able to attempt this again with the most recent versions of both the kernel and xorg-x11-drv-nouveau and report what you see? Thanks!
I've tried with the latest rawhide with the same behavior as noted before. It works with nouveau.modeset=1, but without that, Xorg consumes 100% of the CPU and it remains a blank screen. kernel-2.6.29.1-54.fc11.i586 xorg-x11-drv-nouveau-0.0.12-25.20090408gitd8545e6.fc11.i586
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 11 development cycle. Changing version to '11'. More information and reason for this action is here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Kernel modesetting is now the preferred and default path in rawhide, the userspace modesetting paths are now considered deprecated upstream, so closing this as fixed in rawhide.
