Binary attribute is represented as "string" attribute type.

for example, if we configure a picture attribute to be a binary at penrose server and then connect with any LDAP prowser and checking the properties of that attribute, then the type of the attribute is displayed as string and not as binary. please see the screenshot.

The attribute shown in the screenshot is a url, which is a string according to the schema. Please try using the jpegPhoto attribute or some other binary attributes.
