Please consider updating to latest release (2009.06.29), it offers many new features over 2008.01.24 like high-quality video via the "-b" option.

Comment 2 James Heather 2009-07-20 10:43:36 UTC
I'd like to sign the petition too, please...

The 2008.01.24 version is pretty much pointless now because you'd hardly ever want to download without grabbing the high quality version.

I wrote a mail to youtube-dl-owner on 2009-07-21 and did not receive a reply. Therefore I now start the nonresponsive maintainer process, as it is described here:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Policy_for_nonresponsive_package_maintainers

Krzysztof Kurzawski, please respond or maybe orphan youtube-dl, so someone else can maintain it.

First mail to fedora-devel about this:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2009-September/msg00387.html

Here is the timeline to fix this issue, I will have to write some more mails on these dates:
2009-09-18
2009-09-25
2009-10-02 (official request mail)

Probably on 2009-10-05 I will be able to request ownership and then this bug will be fixed, unless there is a freeze then.

Krzysztof Kurzawski, please respond or maybe orphan youtube-dl, so someone else
can maintain it. This is the second reminder of the non-responsive maintainer process:

Hi Till Maas!!

Looking at the package content:
http://bitbucket.org/rg3/youtube-dl/get/tip.zip
and at its spec file:
http://cvs.fedoraproject.org/viewvc/rpms/youtube-dl/F-11/youtube-dl.spec?revision=1.2&view=markup
it seems to me that youtube-dl is likely to be a really easy package to maintain!!!

I would suggest you, to take over youtube-dl without waiting... because, looking at others bugs sent to Krzysztof, he has quit to maintain his packages several months ago... (lucky his packages aren't of any security-critical relation...).

If you can't maintain youtube-dl, you could ask to `spot' (tcallawa#redhat#com) to maintain this package for you!!!

---BEE
To update youtube-dl manually:
1) # yum install youtube-dl
2) $ wget http://bitbucket.org/rg3/youtube-dl/get/tip.zip
3) decompress the ZIP archive
4a) locate a file named "youtube-dl" and replace it over "/usr/bin/youtube-dl"
4b) example: # cat /home/you/youtube-dl > /usr/bin/youtube-dl
5) done...
6) while «youtube-dl is not maintained» : repeat from the step "#2" for each new versions of youtube-dl
---BEE--

bye!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, but I cannot just take over the package, but there is now a faster process possible, therefore this may happen within a week. A tracker ticket is here:
https://fedorahosted.org/fesco/ticket/251

Nevertheless, it would be somehow easier, if Krzysztof could be reached and he would orphan the package or probably all packages, if he does not have the time to maintain them.

Thanks, I'll ask him, whether he want's to co-maintain it in the future.

As 2009-09-25 and 2009-10-02 have passed, how are we to proceed in this matter?

Comment 10 Till Maas 2009-10-09 13:26:25 UTC
Thank you for your reminder. There is now a new maintainer for youtube-dl, but I do not know, when the update will happen. A related bug report is bug #525929

Comment 11 Rafał Psota 2009-10-09 16:55:39 UTC
