Description Marc Milgram 2009-06-11 20:27:18 UTC
Description of problem:
Floppy drive has no media in it, but light stays lit. /var/log/messages shows messages of the following form every 2 seconds:
end_request: I/O error, dev fd0, sector 0

I am not certain which component is attempting to access the floppy drive.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-2.6.30-0.97.rc8.fc12.x86_64

How reproducible:
Easy

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot system with empty floppy drive
2. Watch for floppy light
3. Look in /var/log/messages

Actual results:
floppy light stays on continuously.
/var/log/messages fills with end_request: I/O error, dev fd0 errors.

Expected results:
floppy light stays off most of the time.
/var/log/messages doesn't get floppy errors every 2 seconds.

Additional info:
The hardware involved is Dell Precision T5400
