I left "yum update" running overnight because I didn't answer "y" or "n" to the line Is this ok [y/N]:". At some point, the system tried to check for updates and I got a popup message saying that another application was locking the packaging backend. (The exact message is not copy-and-paste-able.) When I clicked on "More details", it displayed "Yum is locked by another application. details: None". This is the part of the popup which I think could be improved. I would expect the name of the locking application to be listed here (something like "yum (command line)" and it would be even more helpful if it had the username of the desktop login where it is running, or which virtual terminal - anything that would help track down what needs to be unstuck. yum-3.2.23-3.fc11.noarch
yum's lock message includes the pid and other information - so it is up to the app to do something with it. reassigning to PK
