On a system with nVidia NV34 (GeForce FX 5500) and with nouveau driver (from Test Day:2009-09-10 Nouveau LiveUSB) "Suspend" successfully puts the computer to sleep, but doesn't recover.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot from Test Day:2009-09-10 Nouveau LiveUSB.
2. Select "Shut Down..." from the "System" menu. In the window that appears, select "Suspend".
3. After the screen goes blank and the disks stop, press any key to wake the computer.
Actual Results:
I get a screen with alternating green and cyan vertical lines. The computer does not react on any key combinations.

Expected Results:
The system should return to the state it was in before the suspend.

I used Test Day:2009-09-10 Nouveau LiveCD image with rhgb disabled (with rhgb my computer didn't boot).

Are you able to update to kernel-2.6.31.1-46.fc12 (http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=1705865) and try again. Thanks!

Comment 2 A.C.Heron 2009-09-25 11:19:32 UTC
Is there a disk (LiveCD/LiveUSB) image with this kernel? Or could you point me to instructions how to replace a kernel in squashfs.img (preferably witjout Fedora-cpecific tools)?

Comment 3 A.C.Heron 2009-11-07 22:08:29 UTC
I've tested the image http://mirror.yandex.ru/fedora/linux/releases/test/12-Beta/Live/x86_64/F12-Beta-x86_64-Live.iso . It contains kernel vmlinuz-2.6.31.1-56.fc12.x86_64 with the date 2009-Sep-30. Suspend still desn't work. This time the monitor says "unsupported mode" and the system freezes.

Comment 4 A.C.Heron 2009-11-08 09:18:47 UTC
I've tried the image http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/stage/12-RC.3/Fedora-12-x86_64-Live/Fedora-12-x86_64-Live.iso with kernel
vmlinuz-2.6.31.5-122.fc12.x86_64 . It booted only with the 'nomodeset' parameter (previous ones booted fine without 'nomodeset' if I removed 'rhgb'). This time the system didn't freeze after waking, but the monitor stayed on while the system was supposedly suspended.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 12 development cycle.
Changing version to '12'.

More information and reason for this action is here:

Comment 6 William Lovaton 2010-02-19 16:57:18 UTC
I just tested this with Fedora Rawhide nightly compose Live USB from 20100218:
http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/nightly-composes/desktop/

and suspend and resume seems to be working fine. Suspend is a little slow (about 10 seconds) but resume is very fast. After resume NetworkManager reconnects to the network and I can start working right away.

The only thing I couldn't test was hibernate, I click the "Hibernate" button in the Gnome dialog but it disappears doing absolutely nothing, network is still active and there is no activity in /var/log/messages.

My hardware is:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV37GL [Quadro PCI-E Series] (rev a2)

Nouveau driver says it is from the NV34 family.

Reporter, can you please test the latest Fedora Rawhide available and report back?

Comment 7 Bug Zapper 2010-11-04 10:05:29 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 12. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '12'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 12's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 12 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 8 Bug Zapper 2010-12-05 06:26:01 UTC
Fedora 12 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-12-02. Fedora 12 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
