Created attachment 363810 [details] Final fatal X error Description of problem: A swing based application we wrote has recently started crashing with X errors. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-29.b16.fc11.x86_64 xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.6.4-0.1.fc11.x86_64 xorg-x11-drv-nouveau-0.0.12-40.20090528git0c17b87.fc11.x86_64 How reproducible: Takes a variable amount of time to happen, but always happens within an hour or so of use. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Run complex swing application Actual results: X errors. Some reported by java initially (non-fatal), then a fatal GDK error. Additional info: This program has been running fine on F11 for ages, so something has changed recently to trigger this. Both openjdk and xorg have been updated recently so it's not immediately clear to me which one is the likely culprit. I'll attach the java and X errors I see.

I've now confirmed that this bug is present using either the nouveau or nv drivers. It also still happens if I use the OpenGL based drawing routines (appending -Dsun.java2d.opengl=true to the launch command).
I tried downgrading java to the originally installed version and downgrading the X server to the original fedora version. I've no idea what changed along the way but I now get a consistent hotspot crash when opening a large file, which is reproducible even when I re-upgrade everything to the latest versions. I'll attached the hotspot crash log.

I installed the sun jre-6u15-linux-amd64.rpm JRE and screen updates in my program are now running about 100X faster than under the openJDK JRE and the crashes and X errors have all gone. I'm happy to do further debugging on the OpenJDK to get this resolved though as I'd prefer to use the native fedora JRE.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 11 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 11. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '11'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 11's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 11 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 11 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-06-25. Fedora 11 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
