Created attachment 364726 [details] Xorg.0.log (zipped because it's 3.5M uncompressed) Description of problem: I'm not sure what triggers this, but X periodically seems to start constantly probing my monitor -- at least that's what it looks like from the log file. When this happens, about all I can do is restart X and hope that it doesn't happen again. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.0-1.fc12.x86_64 xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.9.0-2.fc12.x86_64 How reproducible: Every time (eventually) -- just keep using the computer and it eventually happens, maybe once or twice a day Additional info: My graphics card is an "Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)", and the monitor is an old "FLATRON L1730P". I don't have an xorg.conf and I'll attach my Xorg.0.log showing the spinning to this bug. Actually, while I was writing this bug, X briefly took nearly 100% CPU (when I did a middle-mouse-button paste, although that's possibly coincidental) and then went back down to normal, so I'll attach the exact current log showing the spew of monitor-probing activity.

One additional data point: this happened again this morning and I decided to wait it out. I was watching "top" as it was going, and for about 5 minutes X was using 80% CPU and udevd about 10% -- load average in the 5's. Don't know if the udevd aspect is relevant or just a side effect.
