What happens if you append "nouveau.modeset=0" to the boot options?

Comment 2 Andy 2009-10-20 23:53:04 UTC
booting up with the nouveau.modeset=0 displays a message that says nouveau.modeset=0 is being ignored because it doesn't know what it's doing. The fail back loading screen (solid bars progressing toward the end of the screen) is displayed. When the loading screen is done, I'm presented with a blank screen.

This was tested using the Fedora 12 beta live disk

Comment 3 Ben Skeggs 2009-10-21 00:12:31 UTC
OK, so it's nouveau failing then for sure. Are you able to attach your /var/log/messages please.

Comment 4 Andy 2009-10-21 00:17:16 UTC
whenever I boot up the live disk I don't have any video, is there a way I could automate this task.

I have submitted the /var/log/messages file is there any thing else you need from me?

Since this bugzilla report was filed, there have been several major updates in various components of the Xorg system, which may have resolved this issue. Users who have experienced this problem are encouraged to upgrade their system to the latest version of their packages (at least F12Beta, but even better if the very latest versions).

Please, if you experience this problem on the up-to-date system, let us now in the comment for this bug, or whether the upgraded system works for you.

If you won't be able to reply in one month, I will have to close this bug as INSUFFICIENT_DATA. Thank you.

[This is a bulk message for all open Fedora Rawhide Xorg-related bugs. I'm adding myself to the CC list for each bug, so I'll see any comments you make after this and do my best to make sure every issue gets proper attention.]

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 12 development cycle.
Changing version to '12'.

Comment 11 Andy 2009-11-16 22:52:53 UTC
I just booted up the Fedora 12 rc4 iso and everything is working. I have video and the boot screen correctly displays the animation. The driver always reports my VGA port as being connected to a device but the option can be manually disabled using the System Settings menu in KDE. With this fix I'll be able to use fedora full time and will be able to provide information.

The bug has been fixed, this can be closed and I'll start a new bug regrading the VGA port.

Thank you
