Description of problem:
trying to access USB Scanner/Printer Canon PIXMA MP 500 through xsane or scanimage results in 

scanimage -T
scanimage: open of device pixma:04A9170C failed: Access to resource has been denied

Printing on the printer works

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
sane-backends-1.0.20-7.fc12.x86_64 
+ up-to-date rawhide

How reproducible:
always


Additional info:
when I run scanimage with debuging enabled I get messages like 

....
[pixma] pixma_collect_devices() found Canon PIXMA MP500 at libusb:002:003
[sanei_usb] sanei_usb_open: trying to open device `libusb:002:003'
USB error: could not set config 1: Operation not permitted
[sanei_usb] sanei_usb_open: libusb complained: could not set config 1: Operation not permitted
[sanei_usb] Make sure you run as root or set appropriate permissions
.....

Your version of sane-backends is not current. Please try if you see this problem with version 1.0.20-10.fc12. Thanks!

It was current at the time I wrote the report.

Hm, the new version was out by then. I guess it was still on the way to your mirror at the time you tried it...
