Description of problem: When you put in install DVD or precreated installed image. Computer will not boot the kernel Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Beta How reproducible: Every time just start the computer Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: Computer locks with message. I get a recursive error after kernel loads. And says it is fixed but needs a reboot. Expected results: Computer starts Additional info: I then used my laptop to load a flash drive with F12 beta. And ran it in the other computer. Same result. (The disk and the flash dive can boot in my laptop. Celeron 2.53 1gb ram Steven
Additional: Put newly burned DVD in the drive Start the computer Results Kernel fails to load - A recursive error has been detected is fixed but need to restart. Restart the computer same result. Any help would be grateful.
"a recursive error" Please quote the error message _exactly_. Do not paraphrase. And if you can see any messages preceding the error message, provide them too. Thank you for testing the Beta.
Ok not a problem. I will have to take a photo and send it through. What else do you need? The computer is running Fedora 10 at the moment so I can send a hardware profile if you want. Steven
Yes, detailed information about the hardware is always good to add when reporting kernel bugs. The output of dmesg from a booting kernel as well as lspci -vvnn output would be helpful.
The error message said A recursive error has been detected. Fixing needs restart. This is while the kernel gets first loaded. (before Plymouth (installed) or anaconda (DVD)) I will post the screen shots latter today. dmesg and lspci Steven

Created attachment 367256 [details] Pictures of Boot screen Sorry the error should read. Fixing Recursive fault but restart needed Also please find attached screen shots from 2 different boots. Steven
Please add "vga=1" to the boot options and try again. Also, those are two different errors you're getting there.
OK I will try and get back. As for the two errors, they appear related as they happen at the exact same time. Just that the PC locked up before it could show the error on the first pic. I thought it would be helpful. Thanks a lot.
Tried the vga thing but it did not work. Same error message.
vga=1 was not expected to workaround the bug. Its purpose is to make the kernel set a text mode with more lines on the screen, so that hopefully the complete error message fits there (the pictures you posted had the error messages truncated). Also please remove the parameters "rhgb quiet" from the command line.
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 12 development cycle. Changing version to '12'. More information and reason for this action is here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 12. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '12'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 12's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 12 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 12 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-12-02. Fedora 12 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
