Description Gene Czarcinski 2009-10-27 18:33:39 UTC
Description of problem:

According to gdm documentation: http://library.gnome.org/admin/gdm/2.28/gdm.html
"The Face Browser is configured to display the users who log in most frequently at the top of the list."

This appears to work in F11 (gdm 2.26.1) but sometime during the F12 cycle it stopped working.

Since I have no idea where gdm keeps the information as the the list order, I cannot look to see if things there are correct or not.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
F12-rawhide, gdm-2.28.1-5.fc12.x86_64

Comment 1 Bug Zapper 2009-11-16 14:26:26 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 12 development cycle.
Changing version to '12'.

More information and reason for this action is here:

Comment 2 Sergey Rudchenko 2009-12-05 21:48:39 UTC
Thank you for the bug report.

I can confirm the issue with gdm-2.28.1-24.fc12. GDM uses an alphabetical order and does not pop frequently used accounts up.

This request contradicts the one in bug 458162.

Comment 4 Ray Todd Stevens 2010-02-23 14:22:52 UTC
I am the person who filed 458162

I guess the problem in part is that I really was not looking for alphabetic list, but that would seem logical. More inportant is that the login list doesn't give away security information. If the users listed are the ones who login the most this is information that is not necessarily something we want everyone to know.

Actually I prefer going back to the old version if where you had to enter a user id and password to get on the machine. GDM used to have the flexibility to handle different configurations like this, but no longer does. This is an major set backwards.

Comment 5 Ray Todd Stevens 2010-11-04 04:03:43 UTC
GDM is still in need of the ability to be customized to the needs of the site. This "new improved" version is a almost total step backwards several versions almost to the beginning of the project. I have yet to see even one advantage to the new system.

Comment 6 Bug Zapper 2010-11-04 09:03:24 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 12. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '12'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 12's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 12 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 7 Bug Zapper 2010-12-04 03:39:34 UTC
Fedora 12 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-12-02. Fedora 12 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
