Since this bugzilla report was filed, there have been several major updates in various components of the Xorg system, which may have resolved this issue. Users who have experienced this problem are encouraged to upgrade their system to the latest version of their packages (at least F12Beta, but even better if the very latest versions).

Please, if you experience this problem on the up-to-date system, let us now in the comment for this bug, or whether the upgraded system works for you.

If you won't be able to reply in one month, I will have to close this bug as INSUFFICIENT_DATA. Thank you.

[This is a bulk message for all open Fedora Rawhide Xorg-related bugs. I'm adding myself to the CC list for each bug, so I'll see any comments you make after this and do my best to make sure every issue gets proper attention.]

Comment 2 Javier Alejandro Castro 2009-11-05 23:02:41 UTC
Problem persists with rawhide fully updated.

I think problem may be in package mesa-dri-drivers-experimental who owns the file:

/usr/lib64/dri/r600_dri.so

By the way, if i want to post a bug in that package, which component must i select?

May be that is the file that report the version problem in Xorg.0.log ?

My current versions are:

xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.0-5.fc12.x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.13.0-0.10.20091006git457646d73.fc12.x86_64
mesa-dri-drivers-experimental-7.6-0.13.fc12.x86_64
kernel-2.6.31.5-115.fc12.x86_64

Comment 3 Bug Zapper 2009-11-16 14:29:45 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 12 development cycle.
Changing version to '12'.

Yah, when F12 Beta came out, I tried mesa-dri-drivers-experimental and 3D and compiz worked on a Radeon HD 3200. Now I've upgraded to F12 Final, and it no longer works, providing the above error message. KMS and Compiz worked for so brief a time :(

Comment 5 Richard Schwarting 2009-11-27 12:52:30 UTC
Tried the versions available in updates-testing of the ati driver, the kernel, mesa, and libdrm, and it still fails, with the same error message in the Xorg.0.log.

http://www.x.org/wiki/radeonBuildHowTo has some explanation, at least.

"Acceleration disabled and your xorg.log has error

"(EE) RADEON(0): [dri] RADEONDRIGetVersion failed because of a version mismatch.
"[dri] radeon kernel module version is 2.0.0 but version 1.17.0 or newer is needed.
"[dri] Disabling DRI.
"Your xf86-video-ati doesn't have support for KMS. You have to rebuild it against libdrm_radeon (libdrm configured with --enable-radeon-experimental-api). This also means that you have to rebuild mesa against same new libdrm because mesa doesn't have KMS support without libdrm_radeon either. Also check that you have correct versions of all components."

Please, make sure that you have fully upgraded system. This looks like something messy in your packages.

Comment 8 Javier Alejandro Castro 2009-11-28 01:43:02 UTC
I already did everything Matej, and it stills gives that error. Maybe somebody must build a new version of mesa, and radeon-experimental-api, etc so we can finally use it! thanks.

Comment 9 Javier Alejandro Castro 2009-12-05 16:23:04 UTC
Looking at other bug reports over there, i disable KMS (nomodeset) and now the message has gone. But when i try to launch compiz, it gives me some errors.

compiz --replace
IRQ's not enabled, falling back to busy waits: 2 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing
compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0
compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0

Any ideas ? Must i change component to compiz?

Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue.

Please attach your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf, if available), output of the dmesg command, and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link below.

We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information.

Thanks in advance.

Isn't the fix to provide a newer mesa?
7.6.1 or better.
There isn't even one in rawhide. (!!)

(radeonhd2600 here (rv630) which cannot even run glxgears now with 2.6.32...)

Comment 15 Jérôme Glisse 2009-12-08 20:32:46 UTC
To every one having this trouble, this must be somethings wrong on your side, you either installed a self compiled ddx or mesa. Please do :

sudo yum reinstall --force xorg-x11-drv-ati mesa-dri-drivers-experimental libdrm

It should force reinstallion of the package. If you still have the issue after that please report output of :

rpm -q xorg-x11-drv-ati mesa-dri-drivers-experimental libdrm

Comment 16 Javier Alejandro Castro 2009-12-08 23:09:24 UTC
Issue persist after reinstalling as requested. So here is the versions:

rpm -q xorg-x11-drv-ati mesa-dri-drivers-experimental libdrm

xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.13.0-0.11.20091119git437113124.fc12.x86_64
mesa-dri-drivers-experimental-7.6-0.13.fc12.x86_64
libdrm-2.4.15-6.fc12.x86_64

Hope finally somebody can see where is the problem!

Comment 17 Richard Schwarting 2009-12-09 00:01:57 UTC
I'll note that my problem originated from having previously installed fglrx. Apparently, my attempt to exorcise it from my system later was incomplete, so X was still attempting to load fgl modules. After making a more thorough effort to clean this and reinstalling the above (as well as xorg-x11-server-Xorg).

I'm sorry I ever tried a propreitary driver. No more version mismatch here and 3D now works. GNOME Shell seems possible on this now.

Comment 18 Matěj Cepl 2009-12-09 00:18:52 UTC
Glad to hear your system works again! For further excorcism of fglrx from your system, there are some notes on https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Xorg/3rd_Party_Video_Drivers
