Description deansalv 1999-09-23 01:23:12 UTC
Hello,

I upgraded from RH 5.2 to 6.0 thinking that I would be
making progress. The egcs compiler and libraries break many
of the apps I used run with no problem. Even some apps that
came with 6.0 produce memory fault messages. I compiled the
same code with egcs and the Portland Group C-C++ compiler.
egcs emits numerous warnings. PGI compiles it clean. In my
opinion you should dump gnus egcs until it has a much better
parser and linker than is in the current release. I might
just buy the $299.00 PGI compiler just to get away from GNU
all together. You should consider that also.

Sorry to hear about your bad experiences with egcs. Hope that
PGI works better for you.
