Description of problem: Insert Fedora 12 beta live CD (actually a DVD) and reboot. Select first menu option to boot. Loading gets as far as installing abrt daemon, about 30 seconds of noise indicating CD activity silence (apart from fan noise) more noise indicating CD activity left it for 10 minutes nothing further on the screen since the message about installing abrt daemon Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): installing abrt daemon How reproducible: every time Steps to Reproduce: 1. see above 2. 3. Actual results: blank screen Expected results: desktop should appear Additional info: AMD 810 quad core 64 bit 8 GB DDR3 RAM 5 * 500GB in software RAID-6 configuration ASUS M4A78T-E mother board
Are you saying that the boot process hangs after printing Starting abrt daemon: [ OK ] ?
A few seconds after printing Starting abrt daemon: [ OK ] the screen goes blank about a minute or so later, during which time there seems to 2 periods of accessing the CD, the screen is still blank and no sign of accessing of the CD. Let me know if there is any way of providing more debug info.
Hi, can you at least connect using ssh to the machine and look if something is eating the cpu? I'm not aware of anything in abrt that could cause this, the worst that can happen is that abrt get caught in the endless loop, but it shouldn't prevent system from booting as it runs in background. Or you can try interactive boot and say "no" when it ask you if you want to run ABRT. Thanks, Jirka
Sorry, I only just found the email updating this bug report with Comment #3, a couple of hours ago. ssh does not work (saturn is the machine I'm trying run the Live CD on), $ ssh saturn ssh: connect to host saturn port 22: No route to host tried various combinations of BIOS setting of video, see below. Also could not get interactive mode to kick in. Even When I held down the 'i' key before the message about pressing it for interactive mode. Tried: (1) "UMA" (2) "SidePort" (3) "UMA" & "SidePort" (4) "disabled" after (4) I can't get it to boot even into F11! for (1), (2), & (3) same symptoms a originally reported. Though I note that sometimes it says that 3 out of 5 RAID disks active & sometimes 5 out of 5. I don't check this every time. I note that I get "Failed to stat /dev/mapper/no /dev/mapper/raid /dev/mapper/disks" with an [ok] for (1), (2), & (3). I can't do much with the machine until I rsolve the problems caused by (4)
w.r.t. Comment #4 I have recovered by resetting CMOS settings to factory defaults and reapplying necessary changes. This not a fault with Fedora! I am willing to have another go with the live CD, if someone has suggestions to try.
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 12 development cycle. Changing version to '12'. More information and reason for this action is here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
I have just checked the live CD from Fedora 12 final. After the line: Starting abrt daemon: [ OK ] it prints a blank line, then screen goes blank and remains that way.
In Comment #7 I should have said that the screen goes blank a few seconds later. I just upgraded the screen from a VGA CRT to an LCD with DVI input. Now the Fedora 12 Live CD loads okay, and I can get to the desktop with no problems.
Close to same problem with me: 1. After booting with Fedora 12 and the boot bar completes, the screen goes black and all activity stops. Keyboard and mouse unresponsive. Graphics card: nVidia GeForce 9800 S (two graphics cards, one slot for each card) Processor: Core 2 Quad Q9550 (Y) 2.83 GHz (95W) Chipset: NVIDIA nForce 760i SL HP/Compaq motherboard name: Whippet
Tested Fedora-12-i686-Live.iso and it works for me.
