This bug has been copied from bug #488282 and has been proposed to be backported to 4.8 z-stream (EUS).
That appears to be a kernel bug: the process that strace is waiting for is in uninteruptable sleep.
I can hardly verify this bug is gone then. Can you please file a kernel bug with possibly more appropriate information, than I could ever provide, and block against this bug? I believe kernel guys can give us more clue what's wrong here.
I see no way to work around this kernel bug again. wait4 should return with ESRCH if the process is already gone, but blocks instead.
Do we want a separate BZ for the kernel issue?
Casey: You mean "Bug 539506 - [4.7] wait4 blocks on non-existing pid"?
That'd do it, thank you.
Note: This bug is fixed when bug 567321 is fixed. Fix for bug 567321 will be included in next 4.8.z kernel erratum however we ship this strace erratum RHBA-2010:0074 now due to bug 567206. Thank you for your understanding.
