Description of problem: On F-12 with latest updates, gnome has some rendering issues with using default driver set by fedora. I have to set driver vesa in order to use my gnome session. lspci 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] lspci -vv 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: IBM ThinkPad T42 2373-4WU Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping+ SERR+ FastB2B+ DisINTx- Status: Cap+ 66MHz+ UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx- Latency: 66 (2000ns min), Cache Line Size: 32 bytes Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 11 Region 0: Memory at e0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Region 1: I/O ports at 3000 [size=256] Region 2: Memory at c0100000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] [virtual] Expansion ROM at c0120000 [disabled] [size=128K] Capabilities: <access denied> Kernel driver in use: radeon Kernel modules: radeon, radeonfb lspci -n 01:00.0 0300: 1002:4c57 dmesg [drm:radeon_cs_ioctl] *ERROR* Invalid command stream ! Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue. Please attach your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf, if available), output of the dmesg command, and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link below. We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information. Thanks in advance.
I have not /etc/X11/xorg.conf. I'm uploading the output of the dmesg command and the /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Chitlesh were you using any GL apps at the time the corruption show up ? Does adding radeon.agpmode=-1 to kernel command line fix the issue ? I am not sure your bug is a duplicate of 529081.
Well I don't think neither. Hence reopening the bug. There were 2 issues: 1) font rendering issue : which appeared to be solved with yesterday's update 2) this black windows issue with gnome shell. @Jerome, no I was not using any GL apps except trying to launch gnome-shell radeon.agpmode=-1 doesn't help for this black GTK windows issue. On trying compiz from desktop-effects, I have the following on the console: chitlesh(~)[0]$desktop-effects gtk-window-decorator: Screen 0 on display ":0.0" already has a decoration manager; try using the --replace option to replace the current decoration manager. compiz (cube) - Warn: Failed to load slide: /usr/share/pixmaps/fedora-logo Cannot register the panel shell: there is already one running. compiz (core) - Error: Plugin 'text' not loaded. compiz (group) - Warn: No compatible text plugin loaded. drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -22. Kernel failed to parse or rejected command stream. See dmesg for more info. Cannot register the panel shell: there is already one running. Also I don't have any window decorator when trying to launch compiz from desktop-effects's gui.
So the font rendering issue is back ? Does font are rerender properly if you minimize the window and remaximize it after ?
The font rendering issue has been fixed. However the gnome-shell blackness is still there.

Do you still have the blackness issue with lastest fedora 12 packages ? Also do you have desktop effect actived ? Does it happens if desktop effect are turned of ?
(In reply to comment #13) > Do you still have the blackness issue with lastest fedora 12 packages ? Also do > you have desktop effect actived ? Does it happens if desktop effect are turned > of ? I'm not using gnome shell, but issues described in Bug 540087 (which was closed as duplicate of this one) still persist with latest packages from updates-testing. This happens with both desktop effects turned on or off.

I get the same bug as reported here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=576603 Adding "radeon.modeset=0" fix the problem.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 12. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '12'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 12's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 12 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Fedora 12 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-12-02. Fedora 12 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
