Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): kernel 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.x86_64 How reproducible: very Steps to Reproduce: 1. start a yum to a site that is ipv6 capable but slightly overloaded. 2. watch a packet get dropped and linux ask for a single retransmission and then nothing. 3. Actual results: retransmission of last ACK stops after one retry. Expected results: retransmission of last ACK till the other side sends the missed data. Additional info: Shouldn't there be some timeout after which tcp throws in the towel? I've watched these hangs persist for many hours (This hang persisted for 9 hrs).
My buddy tells me that this is normal for TCP. TCP never retransmits an ACK unless it has data to send. I guess I should close this bug.
