Description Joel 2009-11-17 20:32:31 UTC
Description of problem:

The synergy package has been superseded by synergy-plus. synergy hasn't been updated for 3 years. Also synergy-plus and synergy conflict.

Please make synergy-plus obsolete synergy. Or at least change the filenames so it doesn't conflict. Or use alternatives (like java).

synergy-plus should provide the capability that quicksynergy needs.

See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=524910

Comment 1 Matthias Saou 2009-12-08 12:58:26 UTC
I think that alternatives should be avoided, since synergy-plus is a bugfix fork of synergy : Everyone should switch to it and not need to switch back. I've just retired synergy for devel. Maybe I should do the same for all other current branches?

Comment 2 Joel 2009-12-08 15:34:12 UTC
I don't think you can retire a package in a release branch. You could obsolete it though. You could put a comment in the synergy package saying to upgrade to synergy-plus. Check with release team?

Comment 3 Bug Zapper 2010-04-28 11:22:01 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 11 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 11. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '11'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 11's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 11 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:

Comment 4 Matthias Saou 2010-04-29 10:46:07 UTC
I've made synergy-plus provide synergy, and with F-13 synergy is gone altogether, obsoleted by synergy-plus. See bug #524910.
