Description Richard Körber 2009-11-20 20:29:43 UTC
Description of problem:
Since F12, GDM detects multiple screens and shows the login mask only on one of them. However, on a docked notebook with a closed lid, it still detects multiple screens. The login mask is then shown on the notebook's display, which is closed. I have to log in blindly.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gdm-2.28.1-24.fc12.x86_64

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Dock your notebook in a docking station.
2. Connect an external monitor to the docking station.
3. Close the notebook lid.
4. Start the notebook and boot Fedora 12.

Actual results:
The external monitor only shows a pattern. If I move the mouse, the mouse pointer shows on the external monitor occasionally. The login mask is not visible. I can login when I type blindly.

Expected results:
GDM detects that the notebook lid is closed, and only uses the external monitor. The login mask is shown there, and I can login as usual.

Additional info:
When I open the lid at that stage, the display configuration changes to clone mode, so the login mask is shown on both the internal and external monitor.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 12. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '12'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 12's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 12 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 2 Richard Körber 2010-11-04 11:46:43 UTC
This bug still occurs on F13. I will check against F14 shortly. Bumped version.

Comment 3 Liam Dennehy 2011-06-01 09:14:40 UTC
This occurs on F15 too.

root@laptop ~]# cat /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID/state
state: closed

Comment 14 Bug Zapper 2011-06-27 14:34:39 UTC
Fedora 13 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2011-06-25. Fedora 13 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
