Notice of crash during startup of encrypted DVD through VLC - crash included notification of a kernel crash as well. This error allowed playing of DVD but version 1.4.1 crashes did not allow playing but that could have been because libdvdcss was not installed but hard to tell as just mounting the DVD setup the crash.
This crash looks trivial but last few frames are missing, which would help us to locate the crash. Can you please install gvfs-debuginfo-1.4.2-1.fc12 package and try catching the crash again? (should be easily reproducible)
Whoops - backtrace with debuginfo installed over @ https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=543288

This looks like a corrupted metadata file. Hopefully it was corrupted before the upgrade to gvfs 1.4.2 because we hope the corruptor was fixed there, but it might be that its still around. Can you attach your ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata/ directory? (Tar it up as there are several files)
Created attachment 375376 [details] Contents of ./.local/share/gvfs-metadata I reported bug #543340, which is marked as a duplicate of this bug. Attached is the contents of ./.local/share/gvfs-metadata.
Your "~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata/home" file is corrupt. It looks like random process memory or parts of a binary/library file. To fix this, just remove it and go on. We believe the corruption has been fixed in 1.4.2, and the time stamp on your file: -rw-------. 1 alex alex 2867200 2009-08-06 17:22 home -rw-r--r--. 1 alex alex 32768 2009-08-06 17:50 home-95008ea9.log Seems to imply this was created a long time ago, so it may still be fixed.
I deleted my meta file as Alex suggested from .local/share/gvfs-metadata/home and restarted my desktop. I ran VLC with the encrypted DVD with no gvfs crashes. gvfs-1.4.2-1.fc12.x86_64 Thanks. Curtis
