Description of problem: Creating boot media from USB thumbdrives from .iso images fails because filesystems are not bootable. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 0.6.358bzr How reproducible: Easily reproducible. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download a Linux distro ISO (I used Ubuntu Karmic and Fedora 12) 2. Use UNetbootin to create a bootable USB stick from the ISO 3. Try to boot the USB drive Actual results: Filesystem on USB drive not bootable. Expected results: USB thumbdrive should boot. Additional info:
Bug reported upstream at https://bugs.launchpad.net/unetbootin/+bug/493129
This looks peculiar, sfdisk should have made the partition active, and syslinux should have made it bootable. Does this occur with the current upstream release as well? Also, what was the filesystem of the USB drive in question (fat16 or fat32), and was it of the superfloppy format or did it have an MBR (you can check all this by reporting the results of fdisk -l)?
I will test this with the upstream release. I have formatted the USB drive in question many times since then, but I'm pretty sure the filesystem was FAT 32. I also think it had an MBR.

So Fabian, what's the status?
It's still broken. I tried it with more than one stick. Funny thing is it works with some ISOs and not with others and I have no clue what makes it work or fail. But I think it's safe to say that even the newest version still has problems. Sorry for the delay in reporting this...
So did you test against upstream? Btw. I've just updated the Fedora package to revision 485 today, the new packages should hit updates-testing in a day or two.
Nope, haven't tested the upstream version, sorry. Will do that and test the new packages as soon as I get a free hour later in the week...
This message is a reminder that Fedora 12 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 12. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '12'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 12's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 12 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Fedora 12 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2010-12-02. Fedora 12 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
