This bug has been copied from bug #516541 and has been proposed to be backported to 5.4 z-stream (EUS).
Applied patch to rhel5.4 on x96-64 host, built, and ran some IO to 41 targets for a few minutes w/ dt verifying data integrity. No problems noticed.

Updated to kernel patch 2.6.18-164.10.1.el5.bz549906, performed 3 times of portdown on both vmax and dmx3, the issue not encountered
