Are you using the most recent version of python-xlib available in the updates-testing repository? Run 'yum list installed python-xlib' to find your current version. If you are not running 0.14-6.fc12, run this command to test the update: su -c 'yum --enablerepo=updates-testing update python-xlib'

John: If you set the environment variable GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 before running istanbul from a terminal..does the crash go away? Open a new bug please and attach the crash report. Please include: whether setting the environment variable GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS=1 fixes it. what desktop environment if you have desktop effects enabled if you are using an alternative window manager (ie gnome-shell) if this was under a virtual machine . I have multiple open crash situations in istanbul in F13 which are related to how the application is using python-xlib in F13 which are unrelated to this particular Fedora 12 bug report. Istanbul should run run fine in a non-virtualized stock gnome environment. The change to gtk/gdk client windows introduced in F12 plays havoc with pygtk applications which are also using python-xlib. I suspect that in reality python-xlib is no longer compatibility with gtk's client-side window and operational failures are only going to be avoidable is applications rip the python-xlib code out and use the correct gdk/gtk functions instead. http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtk/2.21/gtk-migrating-ClientSideWindows.html Luckily there are only a few of them. Unfortunately istanbul is one of them. Doubly unfortunate that python-xlib is in a nearly dead upstream state at the moment.
