Description of problem: When using a kernel after 2.6.31-5 GDM (or the whole Xorg stuff?) breaks, so hangs or is just really slow, at least it is unusable. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): All kernels after 2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686 Intel Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML (MacBook, white, first-generation) # rpm -qa | egrep -i "(kernel|xorg)" | sort dracut-kernel-003-1.fc13.noarch kernel-2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686 kernel-2.6.32.3-21.fc13.i686 kernel-2.6.32-7.fc13.i686 kernel-devel-2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686 kernel-devel-2.6.32.3-21.fc13.i686 kernel-devel-2.6.32-7.fc13.i686 kernel-headers-2.6.32.3-21.fc13.i686 xorg-x11-apps-7.4-9.fc13.i686 xorg-x11-drivers-7.3-13.fc12.i686 ... xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.9.1-1.fc13.i686 ... How reproducible: Always. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Get the specified MacBook / video card 2. Install rawhide 3. reboot Actual results: GDM will be relly slow / unusable / hang. Expected results: GDM works perfectly. Additional info: It occurred right after the named kernel. I hoped that this regression would disappear some time later.
After upgrading to rawhide this seems to be better. I can login, performance is much better. Just the screen is often not updated when I type, but ths might be gtk ... $ rpm -qa | egrep -i "(kernel|xorg)" | sort dracut-kernel-004-1.fc13.noarch kernel-2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686 kernel-2.6.32.3-21.fc13.i686 kernel-2.6.33-0.23.rc5.git1.fc13.i686 kernel-devel-2.6.31.5-127.fc12.i686 kernel-devel-2.6.32.3-21.fc13.i686 kernel-devel-2.6.33-0.23.rc5.git1.fc13.i686 kernel-headers-2.6.33-0.23.rc5.git1.fc13.i686 xorg-x11-apps-7.4-9.fc13.i686 xorg-x11-drivers-7.3-13.fc12.i686 ... xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.10.0-2.fc13.i686 ... xorg-x11-server-common-1.7.99.3-1.20100120.fc13.i686 xorg-x11-server-devel-1.7.99.3-1.20100120.fc13.i686 xorg-x11-server-utils-7.4-15.fc13.i686 xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.99.3-1.20100120.fc13.i686 xorg-x11-util-macros-1.4.1-1.fc13.noarch xorg-x11-utils-7.4-8.fc13.i686 xorg-x11-xauth-1.0.2-7.fc12.i686 xorg-x11-xinit-1.0.9-13.fc13.i686 xorg-x11-xkb-utils-7.4-7.fc13.i686
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 13 development cycle. Changing version to '13'. More information and reason for this action is here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
Similar problem happens with Fedora 13 Beta Live. Plymouth process went smoothly with Water Drop indicator. The mouse cursor appeared for a while then the whole screen went either black or blue (I tested two times). No response from mouse and keyboard from that point.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 13 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 13. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '13'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 13's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 13 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping
