Description of problem: When I use virt-manager to start or open running VMs and either two ("Scale only on Full Screen" or "Scale Never") of three scale related options are chosen the xorg session will crash, VMs continue running, and xorg restarts to a gdm login screen. Clean boot Fedora 12; All updates as of 2/1/2010 3pm mst applied. 2. Run virt-manager 3. Made two VMs (one boots cdrom, one boots an ISO) Both defaulted to View -> Scale Display -> Only When Fullscreen" 4. Within virt-manager, run one of the VMs 5. Within virt-manager choose either "Open" on the running VM OR Edit -> Virtual Machine Details. 6. virt-manager attempts to open a second window encapsulating a VM display. Something in the encapsulated display related to scaling causes xorg to crash. 7. Changing View -> Scale Display to "Scale Never" causes the same results. 8. Changing View -> Scale Display to "Scale Always" allows crash-free operation. Actual results: xorg crashes with two of three scale settings. Expected results: The VM's display and/or Machine Details should be viewable while a normal healthy VM is running. Additional info: 1. First hand observations suggest that the when either of the two settings listed above are enabled, the VM starts, quickly shows its BIOS information and then after the "Press F12 for boot menu" bios produced text, some change to the display causes the crash. 2. While testing I accidentally had a fresh new VM set to boot to hard drive with no installed OS. IIRC, When "Scale Always" is enabled, a normal BIOS driven boot error would be produced on the VM display. With the other two choices, a crash occurs. This suggests to me that it is not a guest OS triggered display event causing the situation which forces the crash. 3. I've included a /var/log/messages showing that abrt doesn't seem to have a chance to catch this crash and therefore doesn't know what's going on. fyi.
I see the same thing with nouveau driver - see bug #539883 Thanks for the workaound of setting View -> Scale Display to "Scale Always" - this works for me to.
