Description Dagan McGregor 2010-02-11 08:46:13 UTC
Description of problem:
Empathy will not connect to ICQ networks, displays 'Network Error' message.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Name : empathy
Arch : x86_64
Version : 2.28.2
Release : 2.fc12

Name : telepathy-haze
Arch : x86_64
Version : 0.3.1
Release : 3.fc12

Name : libpurple
Arch : x86_64
Version : 2.6.5
Release : 1.fc12

How reproducible:
Every time I open Empathy

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Empathy
2. Attempt to login to ICQ/AIM
3. Get 'Network Error'

Actual results:
Cannot login to ICQ/AIM

Expected results:
Login to ICQ/AIM should work

Additional info:
It's noted in #pidgin on FreeNode people having problem with ICQ/AIM to uncheck Use clientLogin.
Empathy does not provide this option, to enable/disable. Thus cannot confirm if this solution would resolve the problems.

Any idea what to do with this one? Upstream bug is closed as OBSOLETE (I guess because they are marching towards version 2.30). In case 2.28.x is obsolete, which one is supported? Can we have that one?

Comment 3 Heiko Adams 2010-03-07 18:31:42 UTC
This bug is a usage-stopper for people with many icq contacts so it should be fixed ASAP

Comment 4 Michal Nowak 2010-03-08 07:43:12 UTC
I thought I fix it by installing empathy-2.29.91.1 so I rebuilt that one and it still was not working. But interestingly it started working yesterday at the same time I installed updates from updates-testing. Can libpurple-2.6.6-2.fc12 be the "suspect"?

Comment 5 Heiko Adams 2010-03-08 20:17:50 UTC
I can confirm this. After updating to libpurple-2.6.6-2.fc12 connecting to icq with empathy works again.
